Mundicenter Group has maintained an active
role in the implementation of means for environmental protection and
the application of sustainable development activities. It is
fundamental that the impact generated by the business is quantified
and managed, keeping in mind that environmentally friendly policies
must be applied that bring benefits to the business, enabling costs
reductions that imply a reduction of resource consumption.

Real-estate activity management
strongly contributed to local social and economic
development: being that the concern with good practices
shall be presented along the different "commercial
center" project phases for complete integration:
- Concept
Fulfillment of existing legislation with an emphasis
on environmental impact and local stakeholder
relationship studies, to guarantee the well-being of
the construction phase/historical and ecological
element protection/existing transport network
analysis and eventual impact on infrastructure/impact
on consumer habits/lifestyles, economic and social
development.
- Project
Analysis of climate, flora, and fauna
characteristics/resource savings: energy, water, and
materials.
- Construction
Criteria for the installation of shipment work/contracting
legislation suppliers and purchasers/selection of
adequate materials/safety and hygiene at work.
- Management
Consumption and waste management/continuous
relationships with stakeholders/Hygiene-safety
audits

Quality Management System
Maintenance management of Mundicenter
shopping center infrastructure is supported by the Quality System
Management developed, implemented and certified in accordance with
the ISO9001:2000 norm; having been obtained in 2008 and certified in
that system by the ISO 14001:2004 norm.
This integrated management system was developed with the following
objectives: cost reduction through productive process optimization,
namely through consumption reduction (materials-water, energy);
minimizing waste and effluent; risk reduction, such as floods and
accidents, among others.
|
|
|
|
The environmental theme is translated into other
activities by implementation into a Segregation, Storage,
and Final Waste Destination Transit for the separation
of:
- Paper/Cardboard
- Glass
- Plastic
- Ferrous and non-ferrous metals
- Batteries
- Electronics and electronic waste
- Contaminated wastes
|
|
|
| |
One year after its implementation a 94%
recycling rate of Electronics and Electronic Waste was reached.
Moreover, an Environmental Best Practices
guide was developed with the purpose of reducing the consumption of
energy, fuel, and natural resources.
The environmental best practices were
broadened to create business partnerships through the conduction of
training and follow-up sessions..
Means Implemented by Different Commercial Center
Operational Areas:
- Air Quality Audits
Air quality audits are periodically performed. These evaluations
enable assurance that climate systems distribute good air quality in
the interior of the enterprise.
- Energy Economy
Through permanent efforts in search of new practices for saving
energy, it was possible throughout the year 2006 to reduce overall
energy consumption of the group by close to 897,000 Kwh.
The substitution of chillers in the commercial centers is framed in
the energy consumption reductionpolicy with significant improvements
in equipment output.
- Electricity and Environmental EDP Award
In December 2006 the EDP Distribution Administration council
informed Mundicenter that the quality of the project presented and
carried out at Odivelas Park lead the jury to consider it the winner
in the Services and Other Activities category, noting its energy
economy and environmental protection.
The prize, instituted in 2000 by EDP Distribution for the purpose of
distinguishing entities supplied through its network, with
contracted power equal or superior to 50 Kva and with gains in
efficiency proved in the use of electric energy and with respect to
environmental values.
Odivelas Park inserted itself in the concept of the intelligent
building, in which solutions for Centralized Technical Management,
Integrated Security (in all lines), Equipment Usage Rationalization,
Efficient Energy and Climate Systems, even with a guarantee of
better interior air quality, environmental policies, and optimized
energy consumption.
In 2007, Grupo Mundicenter continued to be
active, in the implementation of means for environmental protection
in the application of actions conducive towards sustainable
development.

In this framework, the following aspects
should be pointed out:
- The Mundicenter shopping centers adhere
to ISEWR - Integrated Systems of Electrical Waste Registration,
where generated waste is identified and classified.
ISEWR encourages operators-producers and handlers of waste to
fill in the WRIP (Waste Registration Integrated Map) to optimize the
process of communication of facts about waste.
Of the actions carried out in the shopping
centers, the following should be pointed out:
- Quarterly/annual audits:
- Internal air quality
- Quality of potable water and waste
- Food quality
- Passive security equipment
- Maintenance actions for the AVAC-Electricity, Security,
Building equipment
- Analysis of energy consumption,
implementing action for the fulfillment of DL Nº 78-79-80/06 on:
- Quality of environmental air and specific energy
consumption.
- RBCES – Regulation of Building Climatization of Energy
System.
- RBCBT – Regulation of Behavioral Characteristics of Building
Technology
